Exfoliating Dry Dead Skin From Your Body

Exfoliating Dry Dead Skin On Your Body/Tips

Exfoliating Dry Dead Skin On Your Body

Just about all of us know how frustrating it is to deal with rough dry dead skin cells, and we search for products which eliminate and or resolve the problem. I have been experimenting with natural substances to use on the body for quite a few years. The remedy is less complicated than we think, all you need is sea salt and a base oil like;  grape, almond or olive oil. Blending the two creates a mixture safe to use on dry skin. I also add natural oils to add fragrance, although you do not have to if you choose not to. I use lavender, frankincense and myrrh, jasmine, rose, and eucalyptus. There are a number of oils to choose from, you might have to spend a little time smelling different oils to decide on which one (s) you like.

Which ever oil you choose if you decide to choose one, you will only need approximenly 7 to 9 drops (use an eye dropper which is usually sold with oils). You can however use more or less oil according to your individual taste.  I make my mixture in a container I bought that came with a commercial exfoliate in it. I use a half box of sea salt and about a half a bottle of olive oil, and 7-9 drops of natural oils.

The mixture needs to be blended together well, until you get the texture you feel comfortable. You will want it to be somewhat gritty so it will exfoliate your body properly. Wet your skin from the shoulders down slightly, then put some of the mixture in your hands and begin  gently rubbing on the body you want to be smooth and soft. When you rinse (rinse well to get rid of the gritty feeling) you will feel a difference right away.  Another good thing about this mixture is it will last you for quite a while, make sure you have a container that closes well to keep the mixture fresh for your next use.

Last however certainly not least, after you have exfoliated, while the skin is still damp lather on some skin crème. It will absorb quickly and make the skin even smoother. I use extra virgin olive oil mixed with frankincense and myrrh oil all over my body instead of commercial crème's for it makes my skin feel soft and in my opinion is better for ones' skin. I recommend the light extra virgin olive oil as a base oil as it mixes well and has little if any color or smell to it once rubbed into the skin, especially after you add the sea salt and your favorite oil.

The mixture will make the tub or shower slippery, therefore I recommend using a non skid bath mat made for the tub. When I soak my feet, in my foot massage and soaker,  I use the salt mixture as because I am in a sitting position it is safe,  just be sure to dry your feet well after use, it also prepares your toes nails to be manicured because the skin is soft and it is easier to remove skin around cuticles. I also use this mixture before I manicure my nails, it softens the cuticles and allows you to push back the skin on the nail bed which in turn gives your nails the effect of being longer than they actually are.

Tips:
  • I sometimes use eucalyptus oil because I have C.O.P.D (breathing issues) and the eucalyptus helps me breathe easier. I also rub a small amount of eucalyptus oil on the veins of my feet, which reaches my lungs in about 30 seconds and helps with labored breathing.
  • When I have chapped or dry lips, I put a little sea salt in the palm of my hand, add a little Vaseline, and gently apply to lips to remove dry and dead skin.
  • I sometimes put the oil form vitamin (E) capsules in my exfoliating mixture because it is a well know fact vitamin (E) is good for one's skin.
  • You can also put olive oil in a fingernail bottle and brush it over the nails to prevents smudges until the nails dry.
  • I use olive oil to wash my face with instead of soap, it doesn't dry out your skin, and has no odor once rubbed into the skin, and makes my skin feel soft.
  • Never rub the skin on you face when washing it, you can do unwanted damage, pat your skin dry gently with a towel.
  • Sea salt may be substituted with sugar if you prefer sugar to sea salt.
  • A final touch after  you give yourself a facial, get a dish, fill with water, add 6-7 ice cubes, then dip your face in the bowl for about 5-`10 seconds, it closes the skin pores so dirt doesn't get in, and it is a quick pick me up.
  • Lavender is a soothing scent which can help you relax at the end of the day, or anytime, spray a little lavender on your pillows about 10-15 minutes before you go to bed, it will help you relax and get a better night's sleep.
  • The sea salt mixture will also clean underneath your nails, it does a nice job, also if you want whiter nails soak them in a little juice from a fresh lemon for 5-10 minutes.
  • Frankincense and Myrrh is also known to be good for wrinkles and a few drops can be added to your favorite moisturizer crime's for your face
  • Peppermint oil when rubbed on the forehead and or the back of you neck will help get rid of a stress headache.

Wow these are some great tips! I love the idea of using essential oils. My husband and I used to make our own soap- just for fun- and used olive oil and essential oils. I appreciate the tip on chapped lips. I never knew what could help them. Great Hub!

You can also substitute the salt and use sugar, both will

exfoliate, depends upon your choice of taste sweet or salty.

Eucalyptus oil can be used on the veins of your feet to help you breathe better, it takes about 30 seconds to improve your breathing. I have C.O.P.D. and I use Eucalyptus on a daily basis. You can also put a little on a cotton ball and breathe in the vapors, it works, not as well as applying a little on th veins of your feet, but it helps improve lung function. I make a body scrub using sea salt and Eucalyptus Oil 10 to 12 drops, I use olive oil as the base oil, it works great and makes my skin feel really soft. Do not apply this to your face as the sea salt may be too harsh for delicate areas, but you can use it everywhere else. Tea tree oil is an excellent disinfectant, it is a safe oil, and can be used for many purposes. Take a spray bottle fill with tap water, add 15 drops of tea tree oil and spray it on your plants, it helps keep them healthly. I put 10-12 drops in a throughly cleaned ot baby oil bottle and fill with water, and use it for cuts and scraps my 3 grandsons always seem to get from rough housing and riding bikes, it speeds it the healing process. I also use it on my dogs legs and paws about once or twice weekly to clean their paws and fur on their legs from going outside (same amount 10-12 drops in a clean baby oil bottle. I like it because it squirts and gets all areas on my grandson and my dogs. However I do use sterile cloths with my grandsons cuts and scrapes. I buy tea tree hair care products by Paul Mitchell, it works well on our hair, and I like the smell, not sweet, more woody or earthy, and it is good for the scalp. I also use Frankincense/Myrrh oil in my creams as it is good for softening the skin and is a natural wrinkle aide, and it smells great. (You would only use 2-3 drops in the products.) I use Lavender oil on my wrist and other pulse points, it relaxes me. I also have a spray I purchased from bath and body works designed to sprays sheets and pillows, it really does help you relax and get ready for sleep. Of course I burn many of these oils in an oil burner, works better then commercial sprays for making the house smell wonderful. There are so many things I do it would ne difficult to tell you about all of them in this comment section. If you would like to know more feel free to ask me. I try to stick to natural products whenever possible, like I use Bare Minerals make-up products as they are made with minerals, and are good for your skin, a little pricey, however well worth it in my humble opinion. Peppermint oil is good for headaches, apply to temples and back of neck. Heliltrope is stop bleeding on small cuts, and doesn't burn the skin. Enough sai, thank you for kind comments, they are greatly appreciated. lfschrawyer1
